He's a thin man, just on the right side of scrawny, only a little above average height at 5'11". He has a congenial, friendly face, but he wouldn't call it handsome; he's far too fair, having the pale, freckled complexion of a typical redhead. His hair is red with a slight hit of blonde. It's incapable of being neat, so he tries to keep it 'windblown,' or acceptably messy. He dresses rather casually at school; he doesn't go for suits and ties, but stays in slacks and a nice shirt, though that's usually button-up. He wears wire-rimmed glasses, and can usually be seen with a smile on his face. Personality: Will's a calm, amiable soul; people meeting him outside of the school would probably be surprised he's a principal. He seems far too easy going, not the sort for discipline at all. He's deceptively mild-mannered, and never seems to take offense at anything. He's the quintessential guidance counselor, calm and reasonable in the face of sullen antagonism and even outright violence. He prefers discussion to punishment, discovering the reasons for misbehavior and other problems; trying to cure the problem instead of treat the symptoms. However, he's more than aware that there are some cases where discussion doesn't solve anything, and he's prepared to deal with those, too. He never seems to get angry, but he can be quite firm when the need arises. Students and teachers are both welcome to talk with him anytime; his office is always open, and the secretary usually has to remind him when he actually is too busy to talk to someone at the moment, due to an upcoming meeting or similar occurence. He likes being able to recognize his students on a first name basis, and is just fine with them calling him Will or William if they prefer to. Despite his friendly, open manner, many people don't know much about him at all. He's used to talking about other peoples' concerns, and very rarely opens up about his own. His plans and ideas for the school are common knowledge, but few people know much about him before he gained the position, or what he does in his off hours. He's the type of person that everyone thinks they know, but very few people actually do. History: Will was born in Kennewick, Washington to Frank and Linda Connor. His family lived on the outskirts of town; his mother worked as a receptionist in a local doctor's office, while his father was a dentist. He had three sisters: one older and two younger, named Cecile, Ruby, and Janet, respectively. Will was always closest to his middle sister growing up; Cecile and Janet were rather loud and opinionated, though in entirely different ways. Ruby, however, was a quiet soul with interests similar to him; while Cecile was the sporty one of the family and Janet tried to force everyone into having tea parties with her, Ruby liked animals and reading. Will was another quiet soul, though as a boy he couldn't always be quiet. It probably also helped that Ruby was within a year of his age, while Cecile was three years older, and Janet was four years younger. There was nothing very special about him as a boy and teenager; he changed interests three times a week according to what was popular at the time, and while better at staying out of trouble than some of his classmates, he was no angel. He drifted through his elementary, middle, and high school years, without much to motivate him. He liked soccer, he liked photography, he liked movies and music and hanging out at clubs, but nothing drew him. It wasn't really till he went to college, at his parents' insistence, that he found anything to get excited about at all. He saw a lot of his guidance counselor in college, constantly switching majors and trying to figure out what he wanted to do. Partway through his second year, he realized the only thing he really was interested in was the random psychology class he'd taken that semester, and switched over to studying that exclusively. He spent a little longer at college than some to make up for lost time, but by the time he finished, he knew what he wanted to do. Being a therapist didn't really thrill him; he wanted to deal with average, normal people like himself, who hadn't a clue what they wanted to do. He landed a job in his hometown as a high school guidance counselor, and worked at that until he was thirty-two. From there, he began working his way up through the system almost accidentally, ending up at one of the early Pride Academies as a senior guidance counselor. When the opening at Goldfinch appeared for a principal, he applied, and got the job, rather to his surprise. He began only this past school year, and is still getting used to the students and his new situation.
